Writing & Remembrance: Strategies for the Teaching the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre
Tuesday, June 11, 2019 - 9:00am to 4:00pm
Bank of Oklahoma Room (NH 140)
June 11-13, 2019
This interactive 3-day workshop offers teachers (grades 5-12) curriculum ideas and strategies to address the events of the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre (formerly the Tulsa Race Riot). As we approach the centennial commemoration of this tragic event in Oklahoma’s history, classroom curriculum should consider the impact this continues to have on our community. Using literature, writing, field trips, and guest speakers, participants will build curriculum and resources to take back to their classroom. All participants will receive books, digital resources, and a professional development certificate for hours completed.
Workshop guest speaker sessions will also be open to the public.

The Reserve at Grogg's Green Barn
Celebrate innovation in taste and words! Join us at The Reserve at Grogg's Green Barn for a one-of-a-kind collaboration between Chef Andrew Donovan and poet Janine Joseph.
In this reading and tasting, you will experience pairings of courses prepared straight from the garden with the poems that inspired them. Chef Andrew and Janine are passionate about culinary adventure and global flavors, and you won’t want to miss what happens when these two share their artistic vision with each other and all of us.
Born in the Philippines, Janine Joseph immigrated to the U.S. at the age of eight and lived undocumented for fifteen years. She is the author of Driving Without a License, winner Kundiman Poetry Prize, 2018 da Vinci Eye Award, and named an Honorable Mention for the 2018 Sheila Margaret Motton Book Prize from the New England Poetry Club, among other honors.
