Virtual Workshop | Identifying and Labeling Scholarly Work with Sustainable Development Goals
Tuesday, April 19
12-1 p.m.

The UN Sustainable Development Goals are increasingly being used as a framework to categorize and analyze scholarship such as research articles. Commercial entities such as RELX (Elsevier) and Digital Science are mapping SDG research and these efforts have an effect on research visibility, university ranking programs, and can tie directly to OSU’s land-grant mission and opportunities such as the APLU Public Impact Research initiative.

This session will help participants recognize how research is being categorized by SDG, how to find SDG-related research, and generate a plan for describing and highlighting their own work.

Presenters will:

  • Discuss how scholarly publications are being mapped to various SDGs by various parties, how this data is being used, and the opportunities and problems with this approach.
  • Illustrate how to use databases such as Scopus and Dimensions to identify SDG-related research
  • Demonstrate how SciVal can be used to view and explore SDG-related research at OSU
  • Instruct attendees on how to apply SDG labels to their work in Experts Directory
  • Detail strategies for describing your work using the SDGs

Please note this is an online event. The online event URL will be sent to you in an email confirming your registration. Register at https://okstate.libcal.com/event/9032381.

Presented by Edmon Low Library Faculty and brought to you by the OSU-Tulsa Library.

Changing the Narrative | Place-ing the arts, scholarship, and public life
Tuesday, April 19 | 12-1 p.m.

The next session in the Changing the Narrative series topic is Place-ing the arts, scholarship, and public life. Interested participants can click here to register for the Zoom webinar or watch and comment live on OSU-Tulsa's Facebook page.

Place-ing the arts, scholarship, and public life is a public virtual discussion on Facebook Live and Zoom featuring directors from the centers that host the Changing the Narrative series.

Discussion Description: It will be a roundtable discussion for the Centers and “what does it mean for us – individually and collectively --  to pursue our work on/from a campus situated such as ours.  What responsibilities do we have as scholars and creative people situated thusly? How might we synergize to meet this call of history and the present?”

April 19 Panel:

The Changing the Narrative Conversation Series is a partnership of the Center for Truth, Racial Healing and Transformation, the Center for Africana Studies, the Center for Poets and Writers, the Center for Family Resilience and the Center for Public Life, all of which are based at OSU-Tulsa, along with our friends at Tri-City Collective.

Picture books marry text and art. Meant to be read aloud, they require tight writing to communicate a story. We'll study recently published mentor texts and familiarize you with the elements of successful picture books (both fiction and nonfiction) in the current marketplace to launch you into crafting your own stories!

Students will be reading picture books inside as well as outside of class, so having a local library card will be helpful. Also, students will draft a picture book manuscript and receive feedback from the instructor by the end of the course.

Scholarships are available for those with financial need. Apply here.
