The Community action poverty simulation is provided for agencies aiming to promote poverty awareness. The poverty simulation increases the understanding of the struggles that accompany poverty, and helps to inspire local change among their workers.
It is a profoundly moving experience. It moves people to think about the harsh realities of poverty and to talk about how communities can address the problem. Most importantly, it moves people to make a difference.
The Community Action Poverty Simulation breaks down stereotypes by allowing participants to step into real-life situations of others. Poverty is often portrayed as a stand-alone issue, but this simulation allows individuals to walk a month in the shoes of someone who is facing poverty and realize how complex and interconnected issues of poverty really are.

CANCELED - Find Your Why
Event Date: Thursday, September 26, 2019 - 12:00pm to 1:00pm Event Details: Find Your Why
Thursday, Sept. 26
Noon
North Hall 140
What is it that gets you excited to start each day, and why should anyone care? Simon Sinek began the idea of creating your personal why (startwithwhy.com). Every person has a why: a purpose, a cause or a belief that is the origin of our passion and inspiration. You may not know yours yet or how to express it in words, but we guarantee that you have one. If you would like help in formulating your why, this workshop will help get you started.
Everyone can explain what they do and some can even explain how they do what they do, but very few can explain why they do what they do. The personal why is the purpose or cause that inspires us when we are at our very best; it’s what makes us get out of bed in the morning.
In this workshop, participants will walk through a series of collaborative exercises based on the book, Find Your Why: A Practical Guide for Discovering Purpose for You and Your Team by Simon Sinek. We will start with a discussion around the importance of having a defined personal Why, and how knowing and living by our Why can help us perform better and lead more fulfilling lives. Participants will leave this workshop with a clear picture of how they can live out and communicate their personal Why.
