Telling Their Story - 100 Years Since the Tulsa Race Massacre

This is a special session as part of the 2021 Coalition for Advancing Digital Research and Education (CADRE) conference at Oklahoma State University. Registration is free and for the entire conference. Register online here.

Join faculty and scholars who work intimately with data collection and dissemination to share the story of the Tulsa Race Massacre throughout Tulsa and the Oklahoma region.  The group will include panel discussion, sharing of resources, and practical advice for additional research and lessons to learn from the study of and look beyond the events of the Tulsa Race Massacre of 1921.

Joys of Genre with Christopher Murphy

  • 7-9 pm for 5 weeks beginning March 25

Workshop Description:

We will look at various existing genres--fantasy, western, horror, crime, romance--as well as examples from those genres. We will break down the common tropes in those genres, looking at how they might be used and how they might be defied. We will write exercises in those genres, culminating in a full short story in your preferred genre.

About the instructor:
Christopher Murphy teaches creative writing at Northeastern State University and serves on the editorial board for Nimrod. He's had work published at Gulf Coast (online), Jellyfish Review, Necessary Fiction, Spartan, and decomP, among others. He has a forthcoming collection of flash fiction from Mongrel Empire Press.
