Greenwood: The Evolution and Re-Awakenings of Black Wall Street

Educating for Justice is a series of non-credit workshops presented by Oklahoma State University-Tulsa as part of the university’s 100 Points of Truth and Transformation series commemorating the centennial of the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre. Led by OSU faculty, renowned scholars and experts in their fields, these workshops will give participants opportunities to connect with the truth of the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre and be inspired toward transformative justice.

Greenwood: The Evolution and Re-Awakenings of Black Wall Street
This course examines the history and evolution of Tulsa’s Greenwood District, coined “Black Wall Street” by educator and historian Booker T. Washington. “Black Wall Street” was the most economically vibrant Black community in the United States for years, and preceded Harlem, New York in that status. There were many significant factors that contributed to its rise, its destruction and its re-awakenings.

On Friday, July 30 at 3 p.m. the torch will make its way to the fountain in the Main Hall Commons (updated location!) for our opening ceremony.

Bedlam Run returns to an in-person event for 2021. Join fellow OSU alumni and fans in downtown Tulsa on Saturday, July 31, at 7:30 a.m. for the 5K, 8K or one-mile fun run.
Registration is $35 for the 5K, $40 for the 8K and $25 for the fun run.
