Event Date:
Tuesday, February 1, 2022 - 10:30am to 11:30am
Location:
Zoom
Event Details:

Join Dr. Brandy Thomas Wells and her former students Trader Johnston, Piper Reese, and Elizabeth Thomas as they discuss the challenges and rewards of working on the important new digital resource, Women of Black Wall Street.

WOMEN OF BLACK WALL STREET

The project educates visitors about women’s contributions to Historic Greenwood, the thriving Black community in Tulsa, Oklahoma. It gives users access to ten biographies, including Mary Jones Parrish, Emma Gurley, Dora Wells, Loula T. Williams, and others. The site was created at OSU in HIST 4073: Digital Methods in History (Fall 2020), taught by Dr. Brandy Thomas Wells. Students in Dr. Wells’s future courses will deepen this project and continue to contribute to Greenwood’s, Tulsa’s, Oklahoma’s, and American history.

Dr. Thomas Wells is an historian of United States history with specializations in African American and women and gender histories. Her research interests especially center these population’s organizational activities and empowerment. She is currently writing her first book on African American women’s internationalism through civic and social organizations, the United Nations, and the State Department.
