FAST START - HPC at OSU

This session will cover introduction to the High-Performance Computing (HPC) resources at OSU. There are several large Linux clusters (“Supercomputers”) available free of cost for academic research. These include “Pete”, “Cowboy”, the new GPU-enabled cluster “Bullet” and data storage. Additionally, “TIGER” resource provides virtualized instances in a cloud like environment. This session will cover a description of these resources, how to request accounts and a list of software and HPC support resources available for research and educational computing.

Data Management Plans (DMPs) are an often overlooked tool for effectively planning how and where to store, describe and archive your research data so that it is secure and discoverable. In this workshop we will look at the components of a DMP, review tools such as dmptool.org to help find templates for specific agencies and how to use the Open Science Framework for project management and as a generalist data repository. Participants are encouraged to bring DMPs that they have used or are preparing for questions or group discussion.

Tri-City Collective, in partnership with KOSU, the Tulsa Artist Fellowship, and Oklahoma State University-Tulsa, created Focus: Black Oklahoma, an hour-long news and public affairs program on various topics relevant to the BIPOC communities statewide. Our show broadcasts monthly on KOSU and KWGS; both National Public Radio affiliates.
Focus: Black Oklahoma features spotlight interviews supported by stories on current topics and events in our BIPOC communities. These topics include news, politics, current affairs, education, law, arts, family, health, relationships, sports, finances, business, spirituality, technology, and more.
Focus: Black Oklahoma serves as a catalyst for change and understanding by strengthening Oklahoma's ability to create awareness for a more diverse and inclusive population.

Writing the Short Fiction Film (For-Credit Class)

Writing the Short Fiction Film (ENGL 3483) introduces students to the creative tools and techniques necessary for writing a successful screenplay intended for short form cinema. Utilizing a lecture and workshop format, the course will cover ideation for the short film form, basic dramatic structure, character development, and thematic impact. Students will study supplied screenplays, examine finished short film examples, write multiple drafts of several original screenplays, and engage in the critique process with their classmates’ work.
The class will meet on Tuesdays from 1:40 to 4:20 pm on the OSU-Tulsa campus.

Beginning with your literature review and ending with communicating your results, there are rules and guidelines to be sure that you are working ethically. Christine Johnson, Associate Vice President for Research at OSU, will explain research misconduct and discuss topics such as authorship disputes, plagiarism (including self-plagiarism), image modification and the importance of careful record-keeping. Come hear about research integrity, how to work with the OSU Division of Research to avoid misconduct and how to anonymously report it if you have concerns.
