Data Bytes - Using Open Science Framework for
Managing Data, Enhancing Reproducibility, and Organizing Project Documentation

Feb. 16
10 a.m.-12 p.m.

Open Science Framework (OSF) is a free, open source web application developed to help researchers of all disciplines (not just science) manage their workflows. OSF provides a highly customizable interface, allowing users to create modules for housing data, research materials, communication, analysis files, and more. The system has automatic, built-in version control for all files and integrates with tools researchers already use such as Dropbox, Google Drive and GitHub. It also gives you the means to add contributors with various levels of read/write permissions.

This interactive workshop will take you through the process of creating an OSF project, connecting to external services, adding contributors, and will demonstrate several use cases and examples. OSF meets the NIH and NSTC’s designation as a data repository, and has recently added functionality such as the ability to link to funders and awards in order to meet funder data and materials sharing requirements.

Presented by Clarke Iakovakis, Scholarly Services Librarian at OSU.

A Reflection on the Oklahoma Black Homesteader Project"
Thursday, Jan. 23 | 12 p.m.

Register at bit.ly/3lAzRex.

About this webinar

Over the past year, a small team of scholars have worked to piece together an intriguing history of hope, migration, settlement, perseverance, and politics on the Plains. The Oklahoma Black Homesteader Project, led by Dr. Kalenda Eaton, was created to research and organize the experiences of African Americans who entered Oklahoma Territory from 1889-1920 and directly benefitted from the Federal Homestead Act of 1862. The presentation will include a brief description of the project; a discussion of process and methodology; a few surprise findings; and a reflection on the role digital archives can have in making rural western Black history visible.

Presented by

Dr. Kalenda Eaton
Associate Professor, The Clara Luper Department of African and African American Studies, University of Oklahoma
Dr. Kalenda Eaton is the Director of Oklahoma Research for the Black Homesteaders Project and an Associate Professor of African & African American Studies at the University of Oklahoma. She is known for her teaching and public scholarship on what the experiences of African Americans living on the Great Plains can tell us about American cultural and national politics.
