"Taking a look in the mirror: Body image from personal to professional" by Dr. Tonya R. Hammer
Body image is a growing concern in modern society as individuals are affected by societal demands of achieving an ideal image.
Dr. Tonya Hammer will share her personal story of what prompted her interest in body image and eating disorders as well as the current research being done by her and her students in their lab at OSU-Tulsa. As a research team, they aim to achieve a greater understanding of how body image plays a role in social justice, cultural diversity and individual and collective health.
Current research in the lab includes studies focusing on:
· Body Image as Related to Individual Wellness
· Familial Contributing Factors to Body Dissatisfaction
· Contributing Factors to Body Dissatisfaction
· LGBTQ+ and the Role of Body Image/Disordered Eating in
Relationship Satisfaction
The event is part of the OSU-Tulsa Faculty Research Excellence Series sponsored by the OSU-Tulsa Library. The presentation is free and open to the public.
