Instructional Diversity: A Faculty Panel Discussion

Diversity – as an instructional topic as well as an approach to teaching and learning – is central to a well-developed and culturally-sensitive pedagogy. But engaging with and discussing the lived experiences of others can be challenging for both students and instructors.

In this Zoom-based faculty panel discussion, you’ll hear from renowned OSU researcher educators as they discuss issues like:

• How to talk to students about diversity
• How to prepare & deliver a course that prioritizes diverse voices & perspectives
• How to support marginalized students

Panelists:

Panel Moderator Rosemary Avance, PhD, is Teaching Assistant Professor of Media & Strategic Communication.

Quraysh Ali Lansana, MFA, is a poet, novelist, civil rights activist and instructor at OSU-Tulsa. He is a Tulsa Artist Fellow and a founding member of Tri-City Collective, an educational organization with a focus on social justice in Oklahoma.

Sarah Donovan, PhD, studies ethical, inclusive curriculum, methods, and assessment practices in secondary English classrooms. She is a former junior high English language arts teacher of fifteen years and an Assistant Professor of Secondary English Education at OSU.

Erin Dyke, PhD, is Assistant Professor of Curriculum Studies at OSU. Her research examines critical and culturally sustaining pedagogies in K12 and teacher ed as well as educator movements for social justice.
