Building Connections that Last

Keynote presenter: Bella Cruz from Training Evolution

Since the beginning of time and communication, storytelling has been at the center. Stories touch people's hearts and minds. They feel the stories. When you lead with story, people remember you. When you lead with story, you inspire action in your listener. The dynamic keynote Building Connections that Last will give participants tools to use the language of story in everyday communications for greatest impact.

Lunch provided by Jason's Deli. Registration for lunch is required.

By registering for the Keynote session, you have registered for lunch. Doors will open at 11 a.m. Please be sitting and ready for the keynote at 11:30 a.m. in the HRC Atrium.

Time Management

This highly introspective look at time management is something we all should be doing. Determine your priorities and analyze how you are currently using your time. Take this information and then learn to be more intentional with your days. Participants will receive prioritization tips and begin working immediately on strategy.

Sexual Harassment and Hostile Work Environment

How do you know when it's sexual harassment or a hostile work environment? In this class, we will look at some case scenarios and discuss what it is and what to do about it. You will also learn about Title VII and Title IX. This course will count as credit toward the annual Title IX training requirement.

Tactical Resolutions

Confrontation Anxiety” makes us avoid confrontations that may be needed for the safety and well-being of the entire workplace.  Good confrontation skills can replace anxiety with confidence and make any workplace emotionally and physically safer.

In “Tactical Resolutions” you will learn:

  • To avoid triggering peoples’ defenses when asking them to change their behavior.
  • How to move straight from the problem to dialogue without an argument.
  • How to recognize and avoid the two most common mistakes when facing someone angry.
  • A simple five-step process for calming an angry person and gaining their cooperation.

To register in LMS, go to the Events Calendar under the Learning tab in May and select the classes OR search “Engage, Evolve, Explore” in the search bar from the LMS homepage.

Attendees will be able to apply workshops toward their currently enrolled certificate program in conjunction with obtaining credit for this workshop day. The lunch/keynote speaker session counts as a workshop.

  • Attend one workshop + Action Plan (does not include the closing workshop) = $25
  • Attend two workshops + Action Plan (does not include the closing workshop) = $35
  • Attend three workshops + Action Plan (does not include the closing workshop) = $50
  • Attend all day (three workshops and closing) + Action Plan = $100

All action plans are due to Human Resources by 5 p.m. on Friday, June 1, 2017. If an employee is unable to obtain their manager’s signature on the action plan, they should submit their plan to HR with at least the employee’s signature. A training representative will follow up with the manager to obtain final signatures if needed.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I enroll?

Enrollment for the conference and/or a workshop is done online using the Learning Management System (LMS).

  • Do Not use Internet Explorer. Use Google Chrome or Firefox.
  • Type into the address bar and Click “Enter” and use your O-key login to reach Campus landing page.
  • Hover over Learning tab at the top and select “Events Calendar.”
  • Forward the months to May for Spring or November for Fall conference
  • Get supervisor approval to attend before registering.

Do I have to enroll in the Conference to attend a workshop?

Enrolling in any workshop automatically enrolls you in the Conference. 

Do I have to attend all day? Can I attend both days?

Some workshops will be repeated both days of the conference, while others will only occur once. Participants are not required to attend all day, nor are they expected to attend both days.

To receive the $100 incentive, a participant must attend the opening, two workshops and the closing session. While participants may attend as many workshops as they choose, only one incentive payment will be given for this conference and workshops only count toward one training program.

Do I have to sign up for lunch?

If you plan on attending lunch, yes.  You are automatically signed up for lunch when you register for the keynote. This way we have an accurate count to order food.

How do I write an Action Plan?

Each incentive option requires an Action Plan.  The template for the Action Plan can be found online.
