Collection Development

The OSU-Tulsa Library purchases requested materials by the university faculty, staff and students based on relevancy to our collection development needs, availability of the item, and budget availability.

Faculty are welcome to request that the library purchase books, audio-visual materials, journals and databases that assist in student research, for reserve or faculty teaching. Please submit your requests using our online Purchase Request Form or by e-mailing lynn.wallace@okstate.edu. Journal and database decisions are made by the Library Director and the Collection Development Committee.

Faculty are encouraged to discuss their areas of research, subject content of their department and provide reading lists and course syllabi to assist in our collection development efforts for the library collection. Please contact the appropriate Subject Specialist listed below.

Purchases made through the library budget are for the library collection and will be cataloged and housed in the library. Departmental funds need to be used for purchases made for your office or as a lab resource. The OSU-Tulsa library’s collection development policy does not currently include purchasing required textbooks that students are expected to purchase as part of their classroom learning.

The OSU-Tulsa Library works in collaboration with the Edmon Low main campus library to secure appropriate electronic resources for continued research of faculty and students. The OSU-Tulsa Library provides many matching resources through tandem purchases based on curricular needs and current budget. Data-driven decisions are made on an ongoing basis throughout the renewal cycle to ensure that we are utilizing our budgetary monies effectively and for the best interest of our scholars.

The Tulsa Library Director works closely with the Stillwater's collection development team while it evaluates information such as usage data, cost per use, ease of alternative access and faculty feedback when deciding renewals. If a low-use subscription is not renewed, interlibrary loan request are available for any academic title.

The requestor will be notified when an item becomes available. If requested, materials will be placed on reserve for a specific course, or held for up to 2 weeks for requestor.

For further assistance, please contact the Lynn Wallace, Library Director, at (918) 594-8451 or lynn.wallace@okstate.edu
