2020 OSU-Tulsa live virtual graduation ceremony fosters new ways to celebrate together

Published: Tuesday, November 10, 2020

Oklahoma State University-Tulsa’s live virtual graduation ceremony celebrating graduates from fall 2019, spring 2020, summer 2020 and fall 2020 is scheduled for Dec. 13, 2020 at 2 p.m.

The ceremony will feature live remarks from OSU-Tulsa President Pamela Fry and a live reading of graduate names.

“We want to celebrate our graduates in a way that is safe for them and their families to participate in this year,” said Fry. “The COVID-19 pandemic has changed many special moments. But we aim to make the most of a virtual ceremony to shine the spotlight on each of our graduates.”

A Special Ceremony

Graduates are invited to submit a photo and a personal written profile to be featured during the name reading. Students can submit their photo and profile online through Nov. 27.

A live, rolling Instagram and Twitter feed will also allow students to participate in the ceremony in real time. Students can use #OSUTulsaGrad on either platform to see their photos and shoutouts appear in the feed.

These interactive features are a result of input by OSU-Tulsa students.

“We know celebrating virtually isn’t the same as standing beside your classmates and shaking hands,” Fry said. “Our impressive and resilient graduating classes deserve to be highlighted for their accomplishments made during these uncertain times.”

Other OSU leaders will also give remarks during the ceremony in the form of video messages.

Additionally, the inaugural OSU-Tulsa ASPIRE award will be given to co-chair of the The E.W. Woods Memorial Committee, Captola Dunn.

Pre-Ceremony Photo Opportunity

Before the ceremony, professional photographers will be in the OSU-Tulsa Auditorium for a Photo Day on Nov. 19 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. where students can have their photo taken against a green screen with a diploma cover. One free print will be mailed to every student who participates, with the opportunity to order more.

Students who would like to take photos in their caps and gowns can place an order to be delivered to OSU-Tulsa by Nov. 17.

Participation in the virtual graduation ceremony and photo day are optional, but registration is required. Students can reach out to tulsa.graduation@okstate.edu with any questions regarding these events.
