Orange Pride: Brian Nuttall
Armed with a bachelor’s degree in sociology, OSU-Tulsa staffer Brian Nuttall has spent most of his career in information technology.
“Originally I was going to go into computer science, but I didn’t want to be locked away in an office,” he said. “I like people and I like helping them. I always have.”
When he first joined OSU-Tulsa in 1999, he worked in project management and was a certified grant writer. But after recognizing his ability with computers, his supervisors moved him to the IT department.
“As long as I continue to work here, I will do whatever is needed,” Nuttall said. “If that means learning something new, that’s great.”
Nuttal, IT support specialist, is the latest recipient of the Orange Pride Award for Employee Excellence, which recognizes employees who have demonstrated outstanding customer service skills and who go above and beyond their normal job duties.
As a high school senior, he juggled classes at Tulsa Community College while taking honors classes at Sapulpa High School. He even once took a computer programming class alongside his dad.
Outside of work, Nuttall’s life is filled with being a dad to his 7-year-old daughter, Casey, and his 5-year-old son, Daniel.
“They’re my full-time hobby,” he said. “I do a lot with my kids.”
Nuttall is a parent-teacher in his daughter’s karate class and enjoys taking the kids to the movies and other activities.
At OSU-Tulsa, his time is spent setting up classroom technology and providing desktop, distance learning and events support. He also provides technical advice as needed.
“There is always a new challenge, a puzzle, and I like that,” Nuttall said. ‘But I also like to make people laugh. You’ve got to laugh.”
His favorite part of his job are his colleagues.
“The one thing that stands out to me are the people,” Nuttall said. “There are just some unbelievably great people here. And it starts from the top on down.”
To recommend an OSU-Tulsa staff member for the Orange Pride award, complete a nomination form. Orange Pride recipients are selected quarterly and receive a framed certificate and $100.
