Orange Pride: Priscilla Boegh

Academic Counselor Priscilla Boegh has worked as a college adviser at several universities during her career. But OSU-Tulsa is her favorite – and it’s all because of the students.

“The thing about OSU-Tulsa students is that they are so dedicated to their education,” Boegh said. “I admire our students for keeping that commitment even as many work full-time and balance their family life.”

Nontraditional students often have different perspectives on life and the importance of higher education, she said.

“I’ve dealt with parents of students at other colleges, but at OSU-Tulsa, many students are parents,” she said. Their drive to get their education is an inspiration.”

Boegh is the winner of the Orange Pride Award for Employee Excellence this quarter. She was selected because of her outstanding customer service skills and for going above and beyond her normal job duties.

She said she is surprised, but humbled to be recognized for work that she enjoys so much.

As academic counselor for students enrolled in the College of Education, the College of Human Sciences and the Spears School of Business, Boegh helps students determine the course selection and schedule that will best prepare them for their degree and the workplace.

Boegh said her job enables her to work with students on an individual basis and get to know their needs. She is able to direct students to campus resources that can help them learn effective research strategies and writing skills as well as navigate roadblocks along the way.

Graduation is one of her favorite times of the year because she gets to see students who have persevered through difficulties reach their educational goals.

“I have one student who is graduating this spring who had a pretty negative experience at another university. She told me that OSU-Tulsa was her last hope,” Boegh said. “And now she is so happy because she made it. And I was privileged to be a part of her success.”

In her personal life, Boegh is a mother of two daughters who are in college and is an avid cyclist. She sometimes rides her bicycle to work from her home in Jenks.

“I have many hours and many miles on my bike,” she said. “It’s something I love.”
