OSU-Tulsa to host public discussion on racial equity in higher education

Oklahoma State University-Tulsa is hosting a live virtual roundtable discussion on issues regarding racial equity in higher education in observance of The National Day of Racial Healing on Jan. 19, 2021. This discussion will be streamed live from 3 – 4 p.m. on OSU-Tulsa’s Facebook page.

“This day marks a time for contemplation and collective action on #HowWeHeal from the effects of racism,” said Quraysh Ali Lansana, acting director of the OSU-Tulsa Center for Truth, Racial Healing and Transformation. “We are honored to use this opportunity to bring all people together in their common humanity and inspire collective action to create a more just and equitable world.”

The City of Tulsa Mayor’s Office asked OSU-Tulsa to coordinate a program as part of the city’s fifth annual observance of the National Day of Racial Healing. Representatives from Tulsa area higher education institutions will be part of the discussion, along with students from those institutions.

Topics to be explored include diversity of curriculum, faculty and staff, as well as student life. Public questions, comments and concerns mentioned via the Facebook Live comment section may be incorporated in the discussion as well.

The National Day of Racial Healing, observed the day after Martin Luther King Jr. Day, is hosted by the W.K. Kellogg Foundation. It was created with and builds on the work and learnings of the Truth, Racial Healing and Transformation community partners.
