OSU-Tulsa names graduation Grand Marshals

Dr. Al Carlozzi, professor of applied health and educational psychology, and Dr. Karina Shreffler, professor of human development and family science, will lead the faculty and student procession as grand marshals during the 2018 OSU-Tulsa graduation ceremony on May 14.

For more than a decade, Carlozzi has been director of the Counseling Center at OSU-Tulsa, mentoring developing mental health counselors and counseling psychologists. He is involved with several community service organizations, including the Mental Health Association of Oklahoma and board member and as president in 2015.

Working as part of the group’s education committee, Carlozzi helps organize the annual Zarrow Mental Health Symposium and other education programs aimed at reducing the incidence of suicide and the stigma of mental illness. He also is the recipient of the 2013 OSU-Tulsa President’s Outstanding Teaching Award and the 2016 OSU College of Education Leadership and Service Excellence Award.

Shreffler is the recipient of the 2017 OSU-Tulsa President’s Outstanding Faculty Award for Research for her groundbreaking work on teen mothers. She is also the recipient of the 2017 OSU President's Fellows Faculty Research Award.

As a researcher in the OSU Center for Family Resilience, Shreffler’s interests include childbearing intentions, behaviors and consequences of various reproductive experiences for individuals and couples. She also studies infertility, attitudes toward parenthood and pregnancy as well as work and family issues.

Shreffler is principal investigator for the $1.9 million HATCH: Holistic Assessment of Tulsa Children’s Health project funded by the National Institutes of Health and the $29.5 million Environmental Exposures and Adolescent Risky Behaviors study funded through an endowment grant. She earned her bachelor's degree at Oklahoma State University and a master's and doctorate from Pennsylvania State University.
