Statement from Dr. Johnny Stephens on death of Senator Charles Ford
Statement by Dr. Johnny Stephens, interim president of OSU-Tulsa and OSU Center for Health Sciences, on the death of former State Senator Charles Ford:
“It is impossible to overstate Charles Ford’s impact on Oklahoma State University-Tulsa. In addition to authoring the Senate bill that created OSU-Tulsa, he served as a trustee for more than a decade. After his retirement from the Board of Trustees, he and his wife Pat continued to support OSU-Tulsa students through their endowed scholarship.
Sen. Ford was a visionary champion for higher education in the Tulsa area and co-authored bills that led to the study and creation of many of the Tulsa area’s public colleges and universities, including the OSU College of Osteopathic Medicine. Beyond education, his efforts to restore the State Capitol and beautify the building through the installation of hundreds of pieces of historical artwork leave a visible and lasting legacy for Oklahomans.
For the thousands of Tulsans who have earned their OSU degree at OSU-Tulsa, Sen. Ford’s impact is far more personal. It is career goals realized, opportunities created and lives transformed.
On behalf of the OSU community in Tulsa, we offer condolences to Sen. Ford’s family and our gratitude for his lifetime of service to our city and state.”
