Tulsa County Commissioner Karen Keith named OSU-Tulsa graduation speaker

Tulsa County Commissioner Karen KeithTulsa County Commissioner Karen Keith will deliver the keynote address during the 2019 Oklahoma State University-Tulsa graduation ceremony on May 13. The event will begin at 6:30 p.m. at The Pavilion at Expo Square.

“As a proud and distinguished alumna of OSU, Karen Keith is a perfect example of our university’s commitment to the community it serves,” said OSU-Tulsa President Howard Barnett. “Commissioner Keith has long been a strong voice for improving the lives of those who live in Tulsa County through education and economic opportunity.” 

After 21 years at KJRH as anchor, reporter and executive producer and host of “Oklahoma Living,” Keith joined the mayor’s office in 2002 and was part of the team focused on Vision 2025. Following her City Hall service, Keith worked for the Tulsa Metro Chamber of Commerce and was first elected Tulsa County Commissioner in 2008.

Active in civic affairs, Keith is a member of the board of directors for the Oklahoma Historical Society and is board chair for the Indian Nations Council of Governments. She served on the Oklahoma State Regent’s Task Force for the Future of Higher Education for Oklahoma and has been active in the Brookside Business Association for 30 years.

OSU-Tulsa faculty award recipients Dr. Hongyu Wang, program coordinator and professor of curriculum studies, and Dr. Claudia Maldonado-Otto, clinical assistant professor of teaching, learning and educational sciences, will serve as graduation grand marshals.

Wang received the 2018 OSU-Tulsa President’s Outstanding Faculty Award for Research and Maldonado-Otto is the recipient of the 2018 President’s Outstanding Faculty Award for Teaching.
