On his first foray outside of the country, OSU-Tulsa doctoral student Blaze Heckert will be a featured speaker at the International Astronautical Congress in Germany Oct. 1-5.

Heckert, who is pursuing a doctorate in materials science and engineering, was selected to discuss his research into improving materials used in aerospace components to better absorb energy and reduce vibration.

As she glides through campus on a skateboard with a beanie on her head and tattooed arm held out for balance, Rachel Millea is unlikely to be pegged as an undergraduate business student majoring in management.

Yet once she reveals her ultimate goal, it seems the perfect fit.

When Tulsa author Ann Patton graduated from high school in 1955, college was not an option for poor kids like her.

“The University of Tulsa was the only option for students who could not leave Tulsa, and it might as well have been the moon,” she said.
