Library Instruction Philosophy

Information literacy forms the foundation for lifelong learning and is the cornerstone of the OSU-Tulsa Library's mission to serve our students, staff, faculty, and community. The OSU-Tulsa Library instruction program focuses on empowering individual and group learners to inquire, investigate, and critically engage with the research process.


Our Instruction Program offers:

  • Library orientations and tours for students and faculty

    • Overview of library facilities and services

    • Can be a pop-in session, a walk-through or a quick overview

    • Average duration - 5-20 minutes

  • Introductory research and searching skills

    • Includes demonstration of library databases and online resources

    • Learning how to refine research topics and define search terms

    • Evaluating websites and research results

    • Help with citations and Zotero citation management

    • Can be tailored to a specific assignment or subject area

    • Average duration - 30 minutes to an hour

  • Specialized research instruction

    • Regular class meetings

    • Targeted asynchronous tutorials and content

    • Embedding instructional content and library resources via Canvas

    • In-depth exploration of subject specific research skills

    • Multi-day instruction, or a tailored workshop

    • Average duration - an hour or more
