Library Instruction Philosophy
Information literacy forms the foundation for lifelong learning and is the cornerstone of the OSU-Tulsa Library's mission to serve our students, staff, faculty, and community. The OSU-Tulsa Library instruction program focuses on empowering individual and group learners to inquire, investigate, and critically engage with the research process.
Our Instruction Program offers:
Library orientations and tours for students and faculty
Overview of library facilities and services
Can be a pop-in session, a walk-through or a quick overview
Average duration - 5-20 minutes
Introductory research and searching skills
Includes demonstration of library databases and online resources
Learning how to refine research topics and define search terms
Evaluating websites and research results
Help with citations and Zotero citation management
Can be tailored to a specific assignment or subject area
Average duration - 30 minutes to an hour
Specialized research instruction
Regular class meetings
Targeted asynchronous tutorials and content
Embedding instructional content and library resources via Canvas
In-depth exploration of subject specific research skills
Multi-day instruction, or a tailored workshop
Average duration - an hour or more
