Students from the 2021 Black Wall Street Entrepreneurship program at OSU-Tulsa got hands-on experience managing money.

Oklahoma State University-Tulsa is helping both kids and adults become more financially literate with free “Money Matters” workshops April 6, 13 and 20 at 10 a.m. in North Hall 150. The workshops – which include a free continental breakfast – are separated into middle and high school students on April 6, elementary school students on April 13 and adults on April 20.

“The ability to manage your personal finances and make the most of your money is essential for everyone – but they don’t always teach financial literacy in K-12 schools,” said Alnetta Morris, community engagement coordinator at OSU-Tulsa. “At OSU-Tulsa, we want make sure everyone is equipped with the knowledge of how money works, and how you can do the most with your money.”

This is the third year of Money Matters spring workshops hosted at OSU-Tulsa.

Each workshop will focus on age-appropriate financial lessons. The first workshop for middle and high school students on April 6 will discuss savings plans, investments and financial responsibility.

The April 13 workshop, designed for elementary school students, will be a fun and interactive lesson will teach younger children the basic principles of money.

Chistopher Elmore, wealth manager with Smiley Elmore & Associates, will return as a presenter for the adult-focused workshop on April 20. Topics for this workshop include why credit matters, developing a spending and saving plan, understanding investments and recognizing financial responsibility.

Registration for the workshops is required. For more information contact Alnetta Morris at 918-594-8305 or alnetta@okstate.edu.
