Graduate SchoolEarning an advanced degree
Graduate school can open doors to higher-level jobs and leadership roles in many fields. If you're looking to advance your career in areas like business, education, health care or research, earning a master's degree, doctoral degree or professional degree could be the right path.
A master's degree usually takes two to three years to complete and can lead to management jobs in fields like management, education and healthcare. The MBA is an example of a master’s degree. A doctoral degree (Ph.D. or Ed.D.) usually takes four to six years and is necessary for advanced leadership roles like school superintendent. Professional degrees such as medical or veterinary degrees can take four to six years and are required for careers as doctors or veterinarians.
Many graduate programs involve research, which allows you to deepen your expertise and contribute to the community. You can earn a master’s degree in Tulsa, Stillwater, or online. Doctoral degrees are available in Tulsa and Stillwater. OSU’s medical school is OSU Center for Health Sciences in Tulsa and Tahlequah, and our veterinary school is in Stillwater.
"I'm here for you"
If your family member wants to go to graduate school, be curious about it. You might wonder why someone would want to attend more college after graduating. Encourage your loved one to share why they want to continue their education and how it will help their career. Offer to join them when they talk to a faculty member about the graduate program they’re interested in. Together, you can ask questions about how graduate school is different from undergraduate work and what the application process will be like.
