New online leadership training programming offered by OSU College of Professional Studies

Tuesday, August 13, 2024

The Oklahoma State University College of Professional Studies is helping Tulsa-area employers train and promote leaders with a new series of non-credit online training courses that begin Aug 19.

The 16-week Project Management Leadership series and the self-paced Leadership Training Series for Managers are designed to prepare employees for leadership roles and provide pathways for internal promotion.

“The demand for upskilling and reskilling is on the rise,” said Gina Noble, director of the College of Professional Studies at OSU-Tulsa. “Businesses recognize that the best way to achieve strong leadership is to build strong leaders. That’s where we can help.”

These expert-led courses have been developed by working directly with businesses and feature customizable delivery options to fit an organization’s timeline and needs.

“I highly recommend working with OSU-Tulsa and their leadership training program,” said Larry Honel, Executive Director of Global Operations at AAON. “The team from OSU-Tulsa came out and met with us at AAON and custom tailored the classes to fit our specific needs. They have really helped our team members progress in their positions as leaders.”

The College of Professional Studies consults with human resources and leadership teams to pinpoint the education and training needs of an organization, then creates a plan to recruit, promote, retain and retrain employees.

“We’ve gotten a lot of positive feedback from our team members about how this has helped them in their day-to-day management styles,” Honel said. “It’s been a wonderful resource for AAON.”

“Since COVID, we’ve been looking for ways to enhance the development of our professional staff, and partnering with OSU has been a great way to do that,” said Joey Lada, a plant manager with the Greenheck Group in Tulsa. “I like the OSU leadership management series because it aligns well with our core values at Greenheck, such as creating a collaborative culture. We want our employees to participate in this series so they can continue to develop their current skills, learn new skills and become better leaders.”

The Project Management Leadership series focuses on providing an in-depth understanding of best practices for project managers and preparing participants for the Project Management Institute’s Project Management Professional (PMP) exam, including fulfilling the contact hour requirements necessary to apply and take the exam. The enrollment deadline for this series is Aug. 12.

The Leadership Training Series for Managers is a series of self-paced, instructor-led online classes on topics including creating a collaborative workplace culture, coaching, communication skills, critical conversations and building teamwork. The courses can also be purchased individually, with participants earning digital badges for each course and a certificate of completion for finishing the series. The enrollment deadline for this series is Aug. 16.
