Advising for Future Students
What to expect at a future student advising appointment
Whether you’re beginning college, transferring credits from another institution or returning to finish a degree, OSU-Tulsa’s academic advisors are here to help you reach your goals — on time and on budget.
Our advisors understand that every student’s path looks different. They specialize in helping you make the most of your prior coursework, plan your schedule and connect you with resources to keep you on track.
Advising appointments are available in person or virtually, with flexible times throughout the day. If meeting with an advisor feels intimidating, this guide will walk you through what to expect and how we’ll make the process simple and supportive.

Here's what you can expect at your first advising appointment:
We'll talk about your life and goals
You bring your whole self to college, so we want to make sure your degree program fits you. We know that life can get busy, especially when you're juggling a job, family and social responsibilities. Once we understand your life and career goals, we'll recommend majors that can get you there.
We'll look at the college credits you already have
You want to finish your degree as soon as possible, and we know the majors that can help you do that. Bring transcripts from every college you have attended, plus any military and credit by examination records. We'll do everything we can to make every credit count!
We'll discuss your current schedule
If you're currently attending another institution, we'll help you choose classes that will apply to your OSU degree once you transfer. That means even if you're starting your first semester at a community college, we can ensure every class you take will count toward your OSU degree, thanks to our Transfer Maps.
We'll connect you with additional resources
Whether it's inquiring about classroom accommodations for a disability or exploring additional opportunities outside the classroom, your academic advisor will work with your admissions counselor to get you connected to the right people. OSU-Tulsa's intimate, small-campus environment means everyone works together to ensure your experience is the best it can be.
We'll stay in touch
Once you meet with an OSU-Tulsa academic advisor, we're available to help answer any questions you have about transferring. If you change your major at your current school, start a new job with new career goals or just want to check in, you can make an appointment with your advisor. Once you're enrolled at OSU-Tulsa, your academic advisor will be with you until you graduate with your bachelor's degree.
